What is a Hero?

December 6th, 2009

Lately, I’ve been wondering, what does it mean to be a hero?  We may all have different definitions of what a hero means, but I have made an attempt to give my definition.  What is a hero to you?  Your comments are welcome.

A hero can be defined as an individual who faces adversity by accepting challenges that most would avoid, with a triumphant ability to help others.  Becoming selfless and sacrifice what you have to aid others.  No matter the feat of the obstacle, a persevering soul will not succumb to life’s many mountains but finds ways to succeed.  A hero shuns the spotlight as a humble demeanor speaks louder than any flash photography or accolades from media representatives.  This hero is one where strength is achieved by being in the background and let others speak on his behalf because he was able to help in ways no one else could.  It is important to understand that a hero isn’t always victorious but is glorified through righteous acts of humanity.  No matter the odds, no matter the level of difficulty, a hero will make the ultimate sacrifice to pave the way for others.  A hero also has the ability to turn a negative into a positive by turning unfavorable situations to work to his advantage.  Furthermore, a hero is willing to lay down his life for noteworthy causes. Content of character, selfless acts of kindness, and a humble spirit exemplify a hero.

Exceptional Challenges

July 16th, 2009

Yes, we all face challenges everyday.  Some make us stronger and others just test our strength and faith.  But what about those challenges that go beyond what we think we can stand?  What about those exceptional challenges that make and mold us into the people we are today?  The one challenge that sticks out in my mind is facing the fear of speaking.  Have you ever been afraid to say your name?  Seems that it would be second nature but there are millions of people who are “paralyzed” by speech.  It’s those exceptional challenges that take us to a new plato where our goals and dreams can be accomplished.  What are your exceptional challenges that you face and grow from?  How have they helped and molded you into who you are today?  Will you share your experience with others so they can benefit and know YOU can accomplish what you put your mind to?  Would like to hear from you…  ~SB
